At least we’re going to see some of its bits and pieces in the next dev products. From lessons they’ve learned with WinFS, we’ll only profit. Or will we? 🙂
Sure, only WinFS project as such is dead. I am sure that they will use the knowledge gained in other places and other forms.
Afterall, the DLinq story is very similar – they had to fail before they succeed (I don’t doubt that DLinq will be great, keeping fingers crossed).

WinFS is not dead, only packaging is changing.
